★APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY
Wednesday, 4 April 2012 • 23:53 • 0 comments
According to Wikipedia, Appreciative Inquiry (sometimes shortened to "AI") is primarily an organizational development method which focuses on increasing what an organisation does well rather than on eliminating what it does badly.
The picture above shows the approach to Appreciative Inquiry. It is the ‘4-D’ model:
- Discover—people talk to one another, often via structured interviews, to discover the times when the organisation is at its best. These stories are told as richly as possible.
- Dream—the dream phase is often run as a large group conference where people are encouraged to envision the organisation as if the peak moments discovered in the ‘discover’ phase were the norm rather than exceptional.
- Design—a small team is empowered to go away and design ways of creating the organisation dreamed in the conference(s).
- Destiny—the final phase is to implement the changes.
This approach can be applied to various situation and settings, so does to multicultural counseling. We just ned to adjust it to our needs and surrounding.

In discovering different culture, we decided to start our journey with making friends with foreigners and also to go visit several museum around KL. We have several places in mind like Museum Orang Asli and National Museum.
During the meeting with the foreigners we would love to know of their background backhome, their traditional cloth, language, food, games, tradition and etc. On our visit to museum, we would love to see their history, their historical event and date, to know more of the people and their norms. Surprise us and it would be better..^^

Last weekend, exactly 2 days before I came back to IIUM again, we (my family and I) decided to go to Dannok, Thailand. We departed around 7pm and arrived around 12am. So we decided to just get a hotel nearby. Eventhough we arrive late, but Dannok nightlife had just began. I can see light filling all the street, shops and restaurant and there are also many elephant around their roads. Yes, you read it right. Elephant! We went back home the day after. So here are some of the pictures I snap. Enjoy.

Down the memory lane of childhood. It is not the best things back then compared to now. That I almost forgot it. But as I've been remembered now, it is sure invaluable. How things have change, yet still the same. I am still me but I am not really..^^

Malaysia, Religious Oriented? or Secularism?
I believe that we are religious oriented. Just look around us. There are mosque, temple, Thaipusam, Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year celebrated everywhere. Having said so, I did NOT look at it negatively. Malaysia is made up of different races, religion, language etc. Believe it or not, the only way to differentiate this differences is only through our religion orientation. It is such a shame to admit that and yet I am Malaysian. But that is true indeed. I truly love Islam yet I love being Malaysian.
